We have lost count of the number of virtual switches that target Communications Service Provider (CommSP) and Cloud Service Provider (CSP) deployments. With each new entrant declaring it's superiority to existing virtual switches in terms of features, performance or both. To add to the overall confusion, there are innumerable articles comparing and contrasting the features and use cases for each virtual switch. It can end up being quite a challenge just keeping up-to-date.

This talk will provide a high-level overview of the high-level design, features, use cases and cloud integrations of the common high-performance virtual switches including; OVS, Tungsten Fabric (Contrail) and FD.io VPP. This talk intended to supply the audience "just enough" information on what their best option might be and where to find more information.
